About a Girl

For the past few years, I’ve wanted to write a sustainable blog. The trouble is figuring out what to write about. Popular topics include food, fashion, photography, crafts, remodeling, parenting, running, traveling, sports, pop culture, etc. They’re all fantastic, but not quite right for me. Quite frankly, they take too much effort. (Snaps for anyone who writes about said topics.)

I’m too absent-minded & indifferent to take pictures of everything I do. I hardly make time to buy groceries or go to the bank, so the odds that I’ll become a stellar photographer/chef/crafter/painter/musician/etc. is miniscule. I’m still in the in-between-college-and-fledgling-career stage, so traveling is limited. The list goes on.

Plus, I want to write about something greater than me. I’m narcissistic enough without broadcasting it even further to the world. The loose plan for CC&YM can be found here.

However, you may want to know about who’s behind the words, right?

Academically, I’m a Public Relations graduate pursuing a Master’s in College Student Development. During the coming months, I hope to will definitely finish out round one of grad school with a fantastic thesis.

Professionally, I’m scouting for a full-time job in education &/ non-profits. Shockingly enough, I haven’t quite figured out my dream career. I have this dream that somehow everything I dig will mesh together in a wonderful package of awesomeness. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the adventure of NOW.

Some fun stuff that might be referenced…

  • Pilates, Yoga & fitness fun facts. I’ve been teaching them for the past couple years & it’s been a blast. I can hardly believe sometimes that I get paid to “do abs” & other fun stuff with my classes. Awesome.
  • My kids. For the past few years, I’ve coached drama for 3rd-6th graders. They’re the coolest kids ever. We’ve had a blast dramatizing Biblical history, discussing gruesome ways to die, debating the pros & cons of pounding someone with your Nunchucks, & much more.
  • Student development theory. Pshh… my degree is in it. I dig it. It’s useful & practical. Let’s talk about it.
  • The dreaded incredible job search. Bashing potential employers will NOT be here. Rather, lessons learned will be shared.

Enough about me! Who are you, visiting readers?

  1. Dear Cortney:

Your writing comes across as honest, sincere, thoughtful and friendly. It reads well. Whoever you end up working for will be lucky to have you. Good luck. I’d love to have you speak with my wife. We’re moving to Austin and she has a very cool business that is growing fast. It may not be a fit for you and it’s not in your chosen field. But you never know. If not you maybe you know someone who’d be a good match. Hope to hear from you. Kind regards, Ben Johnson

  2. Ben,

Thank you for such kind words. I appreciate them! I would definitely love to get in touch with your wife. Who knows what might happen? Should I just email you at sebournpearls@gmail.com?

Thank you again. Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Cortney
